Mobilization: my journey from civilian to serviceman – 02.08.2024 Day fifty-seven. Training day 14. Engineering

On this day, we had engineering training. Specifically: tripwires, mines, mining, digging trenches.

First, we were told about tripwires. In short, tripwires are so inconspicuous and so skillfully placed that in most cases you won’t see them.

That’s why a hook is used (in short, it’s a large hook on a stick). The soldier throws the hook 15-20 meters in front of him and then pulls it back. This activates all the tripwires.

As for mines, there are so many of them, and they are so cleverly made that it was difficult for me to listen to all this. I don’t understand how all this can be fought. In short, mines are a terrible thing.

As for mining, in short, anything can be mined. Any item you find can be mined, any item. A pack of cigarettes, a wallet, glasses. Not to mention things like weapons. So if you find something nice and interesting, think a hundred times before taking it or keeping it as a trophy.

Then they told us how to dig a trench correctly. A trench is not just a hole. At the front of the trench, you need to make a special embankment (from the soil you dug out). This embankment is called a parapet. There should be a space of about 20 cm between the trench and the parapet. This is necessary, first of all, so that the trench does not fill with soil. Secondly, this space can be used as a shelf. There are some other details, but I won’t go into them all here.

After that, we had a practical session, digging trenches for prone shooting. We tried to follow all the rules we had just been taught.
