Today was probably the worst day of the entire training course. And in my opinion, we, the cadets, are the only ones to blame for this. Almost all of us, some more than others.
Our instructors arranged with special volunteers to bring in drives (a drive is a strike ball machine) and all the other necessary equipment. This was so that we could conduct tactical exercises, but not with bang-bang like before, but with good strike ball drives.
We practiced the same tactical exercises as before—defending and storming trenches.
I don’t want to and won’t describe everything in detail. The key problem was very poor communication. Most of the problems arose because of poor communication with each other.
We had problems both in tactical actions and in related situations. First, one of us lost his radio, then another lost his weapon (trigger). And finally, one person got lost, and we searched for him for about 20 minutes, even using a loudspeaker.
For my part, I made a mistake. When we were defending the trench and the enemy began to approach, I gave a report, but it was incomplete. And when the enemy actually started shooting, I didn’t give any report at all, but just started shooting back.
Later, talking with my comrades, we came to the conclusion that we had no team spirit at all. Many also expressed the opinion that the problem was that we had too many “commanders and advisers,” too many smart alecks who lectured everyone.
Some of my comrades expressed the opinion that we would not have time to fix this, while others said that everything could still be fixed.
Personally, I suddenly realized that the goal of the BZVP was not only to teach each of us certain knowledge and skills. It was also to give us the experience of creating a well-coordinated team and teamwork.
I also saw for myself that newfangled and cool gadgets are not enough to gain good experience. On the one hand, you can gain good experience and learn something useful without them. On the other hand, even with them, you may not learn anything and not gain good experience.
I am not against using modern technology for learning. I just believe that it is not a priority. You can learn well without it. Modern technology alone will not provide you with good and effective learning.
Most of all, it depends on you. Then on your instructors. And only far behind that on some technical means.
