Mobilization: my journey from civilian to serviceman – August 1, 2024 Day fifty-six. Training day 13. Part 2. Lying under heavy military vehicles

After lunch, there was an interesting exercise. Its purpose was to rid soldiers of their fear of heavy equipment.

The point is that people are usually afraid of heavy equipment, sometimes even panicky.

But, as the instructors explained to us, those in tanks are even more afraid. They are locked in this tin can.

Moreover, as soon as a tank appears on the battlefield, it becomes a priority target, and everything possible is fired at it. Therefore, those in the tank are even more afraid than you are.

Moreover, this large equipment actually has quite a few blind spots.

The first exercise was to crawl under an MT-LB. The next one was to crawl under a raised MTLB (it’s scarier when the engine is running).

The next exercise was interesting — there were trenches dug in the road. Everyone was given five blank cartridges, as well as an unloaded RPG or a blank grenade.

We had to sit in the trench. When the MT-LB approached, we had to fire three shots at it with an automatic rifle. Then we had to sit in the trench and let the MT-LB drive over us. As soon as it drove over us, we had to climb out of the trench and either throw a blank grenade at it or imagine firing an RPG at it. After the imaginary shot, you had to get back into the trench and wait for the imaginary explosion. After that, you had to take your automatic rifle and fire two more shots at the imaginary MT-LB crew that had climbed out.

As expected, for most people, this process was exciting, and there was no fear. There was even a desire to repeat this exercise.

Psychologists said that you need to remember these feelings and try to have similar ones in real combat.
