Mobilization: my path of a serviceman – January 6, 2024. 217 days. The 149th day of military service. This world is held together by responsible people

In this article, I would like to share what I saw and what led me to the following realization: “This world is held together by responsible people; they are like the axle (spindle) on which the clock’s gear is held.”

I was talking to my friend, who is 15 years older than me. He served in the Soviet army in his time, rose to high positions, but then left the army. Talking to him, I wrote to him, “Moreover, there is a very strong and well-developed ‘culture’ here – shift responsibility onto your neighbor,” to which he cheerfully replied, “That’s typical of the Soviet army :)))”.

Having worked for quite a long time, I have seen how many things are destroyed and collapse simply because many people try to avoid their responsibilities by any means possible. It’s a disaster.

I saw a problem that is simply unbelievable stupidity and barbarism. A new person comes in, they dump a bunch of different tasks on them, and they don’t know how to do most of them! And in most cases, no one explains anything. I remember myself in this situation, how I would wait for people who were going out for a smoke break and bow to them, asking them to at least explain a little bit how to do the task I was given. This required a certain amount of flexibility and communication. Not everyone was able to do this, so their situation was not enviable — they were given a task, they just sat there in despair and tore their hair out because they didn’t know how to do it (some resorted to taking various pills to calm down), and then after a couple of hours the boss would come in and yell at them in shock for not completing the task.

Observing this situation, I couldn’t see all the pieces of the puzzle and couldn’t understand why this was happening. Eventually, I saw one of the pieces that gave me some insight into why this was happening.

A new person arrives, they know nothing, they need to learn. In a situation where no one really teaches you anything, it takes at least 2-3 months to learn, and preferably about six months. During these six months, if a person endures all this, they are often promoted to a higher position. And this is where it gets interesting. A person who has been serving for a long time, who has demonstrated their abilities, who has been promoted, who has such extensive experience, who is already like a strong tall tree, could now take on a large part of the work and perform it professionally, as well as train young recruits. And this is where a vile Soviet relic appears on the scene. A person with a rank can now sit back and let the young soldiers do the work. This is just complete nonsense!!! You, having become a person who can do in 15 minutes the work that a young soldier will struggle with for two hours and get nothing done, instead of helping him and explaining, you say, “That’s it, let the young soldiers do the work.”

How many times, sitting in headquarters and working, have I heard the cheerful laughter and chatter of such officers? They chatted happily and laughed. It’s hard to think of anything more harmful and destructive than when the people who should be supporting the whole process instead try to professionally avoid responsibility and simply shift it onto the young. And they are very good at it.

This is part of corruption. The word corruption comes from the Latin corrumpere, meaning to spoil. Yes, the phenomena I described above are like a person’s hand or some other limb that simply begins to rot and decay. This culture of corruption is such rot.

Moreover, the problem is that this culture is already deeply rooted. This is what most people do, and others who see this consider it to be the established system. “Everyone does it, so I’ll do it too.”

But there are some people who continue to work and apply all their experience and knowledge. Yes, because of the rottenness of the system, they have an almost unbearable amount of work to do. But such people are the pillars on which everything rests. They are like the titans who held up the earth in Greek mythology. Responsible people hold up this world. That is why responsible people are great people. Therefore, as long as there are responsible people in this world, there is hope for this world.

In one of my next articles, I want to raise the topic that the concept of “peace through strength” includes not only the possession of a large number of weapons. The concept of “strength” necessarily includes the concept of responsibility.
