Today we had lectures scheduled until lunchtime.
It started with us being shown a video that had been removed from YouTube, but our instructor had managed to download it. Of course, it was a difficult and somewhat demotivating video.
It showed how our soldiers, during a retreat, stumbled upon a minefield. In 11 minutes, seven people were maimed, each with a leg torn off. And all this happened during the evacuation.
The main conclusion he drew from showing this video was that all of this could have been prevented if they had taken the necessary engineering measures. Namely, to start checking the ground with a ramrod or probe. That is, the ground around them.
I will describe in more detail what we were told about this in the lecture. Here comes a group, and suddenly someone steps on a mine. At this point, the whole group must stop. Do not take a single step. Take out a probe, if you have one. If you don’t have one, just use a ramrod from your automatic weapon. Carefully, at a 45-degree angle, insert it into the ground. Do not press too hard! You are not looking for a mine, you are looking for a change in the soil. That is, if the ramrod goes in more easily in a certain place, then most likely the ground has already been dug there. You mark this place as dangerous and continue checking. Such checks should be done approximately every 4-5 cm.
Then they showed us the following video. Surprisingly, it was a Russian video. It was their video where they proudly talked about their achievements in mine production. They talked about the POM-1, POM-2, and POM-3 mines (which they boldly called the “king of mines”).
I think it’s not hard to guess why we watched this video. POM mines are quite often used on the front lines.
This video was made in the form of a talk show. That is, it was clear that it was intended for the general public. That is, ordinary people like to watch such things. The host proudly talked about what a great mine they had made and how well it kills people.
Once again, I realized how sick these people are if they talk with such enthusiasm about how great their weapons are at killing people.
