Today was an interesting experience regarding rumors. During my entire stay at the base, I heard quite a few frightening comments from Serhiy about training. Things like, “You’ll see when you’re there!” or “It will be much harder during training,” etc.
Because of this, training was shrouded in an aura of something truly frightening.
Another guy, Bohdan, who wasn’t at the training camp, just heard rumors. He said that if they see you looking at your phone there, they’ll take it away and nail it to a tree.
Today, I decided to ask eyewitnesses how things really are there. And when I started asking questions, I came across a classic story.
First, when I finally plucked up the courage and approached Sergei to ask him about the training center and all the scary things he had told me, it turned out that he had not been there.
I then found another guy, Philip (name changed for security reasons), who had been in training about six months ago. Philip said that it was quite easy to adapt there. That the classes were really interesting. But he warned me that it was better to take care of hygiene. He said that if you don’t mess around, they will treat you normally.
I asked him about the grueling training sessions, and he said that there was nothing like that and that they ask you if you are in good health and what kind of training you are ready for, and then they take that into account.
I asked about the rumors of phones being nailed to trees. Philip said he had heard those rumors too, but in reality, no one nailed phones to trees. He said that when they give a break for a smoke, people calmly use their phones at that time. But Philip said that after lights out, it’s really better to sleep and not get stuck on your phone.
That’s how I learned from my own experience that it’s better to check all rumors.
But I hope that everything will be fine and I will be able to write my articles about how everything is going there right from the training center. I hope no one nails my phone to a tree 🙂
